Hey there!
So as I mentioned yesterday, I started a study on Forgiveness on Tuesday just gone. I began by reading Daniel 9 (MEV) .
What I notice is that Daniel was completely open and honest about all the things both him and his people had done wrong. He did not sugar coat their faults or try to make it sound 'not so bad'. He exposed their sins and mistakes exactly as they were - nakedly. He recognised that they had done wrong but yet he was still very BOLD in asking God to forgive and deliver them.
Look here at verse 18 and 19 :
"O my God, incline Your ear and hear. Open Your eyes and look at our desolations and the city which is called by Your name, for we do not present our supplications before You for our righteousness, but for Your great mercies. O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, listen and act! (*It's almost as though he was commanding God!*)Do not defer, for Your own sake, O my God. For Your city and Your people are called by Your name."
He was not basing his boldness on their righteousness or wrong doings but rather on God's mercy, on who God is.
Many times I have heard it said : 'It's not because of what you have done, but rather it's because of who God is.' This is something I have always struggled to understand. How can total forgiveness, UNCODITIONAL love, blessings, growth, and the list goes on, be based purely on who God is? Meaning all my works count for nothing!
I think i'll stop here for today, I wonder if you are feeling as I felt on Tuesday and still feel even today as I am writing this- "Yes please! Tell me, I want to know! What do you mean my works count for nothing?!!"
Come back tomorrow to see the answer God gave me.
Be blessed!
